In close cooperation with the daily newspaper Handelsblatt, we have developed a Handelsblatt voice app for Amazon Alexa. The Handelsblatt Skill offers information on stock prices and economic news. In addition, users can now listen to the audio edition of the popular Handelsblatt morning briefing.
The skill can be especially interesting for users who would like to keep track of the stock market. In the category “stock overview” you can find out at how many points the Dax is currently listed at and which shares – based on share price development – are the tops and flops of the day. It is also possible to ask for the current prices and price changes of certain stocks. If the user wants to track the development of multiple stocks, they can be added to a personal favorites list. With the command: “Alexa, ask Handelsblatt for my favorites”, Alexa will sequentially display the current price and the price change for each share.
The Handelsblatt Skill exemplifies the significant potential that language assistants have for newspaper publishers. In recent years, although a moderate but sustained decline in print editions was noted – a trend that is indicative of journalistic content – many publishers is increasingly invested in the growth driver digital business. Co-founder Tim Kahle notes: “The consumption of news, knowledge and information is currently one of the main applications of voice assistants, worldwide and also in Germany. The preparation of the news for the new platform and the ease of finding content by voice must play a central role in the newsroom of the future.”
